Several years ago, I attempted doing a thorough fast when I was vegetarian. Unfortunately, I didn't drink enough water during the cleanse and work up feeling cramped and weak in the knees. Helpful hints for later: NEVER do a cleanse without drinking enough water, especially when you're on your period! Luckily, since then I've researched extensively and now know had to effectively and safely complete a juice cleanse.
The aftermath of one is an amazing, clean, fresh feeling that really nothing can compare to. You feel immensely refreshed and have an immense amount of energy. That's because your body had properly been rejuvenated and cleaned, and now has more fuel to perform the processes of digestion.
Some of the best cleansing tips I've been given:
1. most importantly, drink 8-12 ounces of water every single day. You have to be especially careful to not drink too much at one time. Start with two cups in the morning, two in the afternoon and two in the evening
2. Pick juices and smoothies that have plenty of vegetables, NOT fruit in them. Too much sugar in your system, even if it's natural, when you're not eating is very unhealthy. I learned that the hard way. Bolt House smoothies are the best ones, if you're lazy like me. You can purchase them at any grocery store, Walmart, or Target. and they have like every flavor imaginable. My favorites are the berry blend and mango ones. Green Goodness is definitely the one to go with though, if you're doing a cleanse. The fruit ones can be indulged in on normal days, when you're actually eating solid food.
3. DO NOT eat dairy, carbs, or sugar first thing when you wake up. You will shock your system and mess up all the beautiful work you did. and you will feel agitated and get cramps. slowly and carefully ease food back into your system, starting with perhaps some whole grain toast and maybe an egg.
4. Don't binge or pig out, or you will ruin all the work you did and feel awful. Drinking water of tea is a good way to control your excessive appetite.
